For 10 years, Ain Society’s Exemplary Father Award has sought out and celebrated fathers who go above and beyond in building a cohesive family unit. Established in 2012, the award was the brainchild of our esteemed Patron, Mdm Halimah Yacob, and was brought to a close in June 2023. The initiative was started to inspire the next generation of fathers to take a proactive role in family-building. With our efforts over the past 10 years, we believe we have fulfilled this goal and are ready pass the torch to other organisations and initiatives.

76-year-old Mr Jumahri Bin Jan awarded our 2023 Examplary Father Award in a bittersweet event which saw us mark the end of our decade-long journey in celebrating Examplary Fathers. A father of four, Mr Jumahri bin Jan took an active role in the lives of his children. While juggling his hectic work schedule, Mr Jumahri always took the time to check in and advise his children before they made any big decisions in their lives
After a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic, our Exemplary Father Award returned and was presented to Mr Muhammad Mahadi. The 51-year-old had to take on the role of provider for his five other siblings at the age 17 due to the passing of his father. His father’s absence in his life inspired him to do more for his daughter and he always strives to be available and plays an active role in her life.
Mr Abdul Manaf has always done what he thought was right. Being a recognisable religious figure in the community, Mr Abdul Manaf’s decision to enrol his children into secular schools was often met with derision. Despite this, Mr Abdul Manaf stuck by what he thought whould be best for his children. His love and commitment towards his family has seen his three daughters win scholarships and graduate from universities.
Since he was a child, Mr Anayatullah has lived a life filled with challenges. At a young age, Mr Anayatullah has to take the role of provider due to the death of his mother and the declining health of his father. To ensure he could fulfil his responsibilities, Mr Anayatullah took on two jobs. Later in life, Mr Anayatullah continued to work hard to ensure he could provide for his nine children as well as assist in the welfares of his eleven siblings.
When Mr Mustafa become a father, he never expected the challanges he would face. His first child was born with complications and had to go for heart surgery at the tender age of three. While handling this tribulation, Mr Mustafa also had to devote time to caregiving for his wife who was also going through her own health troubles. Despite this he took a proactive role in family-building and always went the extra mile to ensure his familiy’s needs were met.
Mr Shamsuddin was facing an uphill battle as he tried to provide for his large family of six. Even with limited space in his three-room flat, Mr Shamsuddin didn’t hesitate when deciding to extend his home to his ageing parents. Now having to provide for eight, Mr Shamsuddin and his wife both worked hard and event managed to put their children through University
A dedicated father of six, Mr Mohamad Nor Bin Nordin was awarded our Examplary ather Award in 2015. Mr Mohamad Nor always endeavoured to be a pillar of support for his children, whether it be emotionally or financially. Due to financial constraints, Mr Mohamad Nor took on extra jobs and sold his few possessions to ensure his children could get a good education.
Abdul Aziz Bin Mohamad pursued a phD to encourage his children to excel in their studies. Understanding the importance of quality family time, Mr Abdul Aziz always made himself available for his children despite his hectic schedule. He always provided an empathetic ear to his children to ensure they knew could always rely on him.
With our Patron, Mdm Halimah Yacob, elected as the President of Singapore, we introduced the “Presidents Halimah Yacob Exemplary Father Challenge Shield” as a token to be presented to the future winners of the award. The shield was made to commemorate and memorialise fathers who go above and beyond in fulfilling their duties in family-building.
With 12 activists gathered for a common cause to do good for the community, Ain Society was established and registered with the Registrar of Societies on 10th October 2000. Ain Society has held an IPC (Institute of Public Character) status since 1st January 2008
